Nuts are well known for their health benefits and unique nutritional composition that includes healthy fats, low carb and micronutrients including magnesium, selenium and vitamin E. Nuts are also rich in fibre and antioxidants such as polyphenols. The oil in nuts also incorporates omega 3 fatty acids.
On the other hand, the high oil content of nuts allows it to easily absorb pesticides, herbicides and chemical fertilisers applied to trees, to the soil or directly to the nuts in order to increase shelf-life. Nuts may also be treated with radiation in order to increase shelf-life. EU certified organic nuts cannot be subjected to radiation, genetic modification or chemical treatments which are commonly applied to non-organic nuts.
The nutritional profile of nuts can be altered or destroyed if nuts are exposed to heat through roasting or high temperatures. That is why raw nuts provide a superior nutritional value. Nuts should also be kept dry, cool and away from sunlight, especially in Hong Kong where the temperature can get hot and humid. After the package is opened, exposure to oxygen may speed up the deterioration of nuts. For this reason, it is best to keep them in the refrigerator or freezer.
NATI organic nuts are raw and certified (EU) organic. The stock in Hong Kong is kept under 24/7 temperature control and dehumidifiers. We are also planning to upgrade the packaging to increase the oxygen barrier and eliminate the use of plastic as soon as possible. If you have any comments or suggestions, we would be glad to hear from you.
